How to be naturally beautiful || My guide to getting the ultimate glow.
As cliché as it may sound, I full-heartedly believe that everybody is beautiful in their own unique way. In this world of booming consumerism within the beauty industry of plastic bodies and fillers, it’s hard to believe that it is true despite what society says. However, in celebrating autonomy, I do think that it’s appropriate to alter one’s body if that is their prerogative to look and feel confident on their own terms without altering their personality and sense of self.
Today, I wanted to share my tips and tricks to feeling the best in your body that will instantly boost your confidence and radiate the most radical self-love everywhere you go. It took me nearly 7 years to learn, but here I am hoping to give you a sweet short-cut. :)
My guide to getting the ultimate glow:
Drink lots of water.
The glow ultimately starts from within and here’s the most invasive way to start! Take your body weight and divide by 2, and that’s how many ounces of water you should be drinking daily.
Eat clean(ish).
I don’t believe in depriving yourself of the foods that you enjoy, even if it’s considered junk or labeled as “bad.” Contrary to popular belief, you can have the best of both worlds when you can find a balance of moderation. Just remember to sip on some green juice or indulge in a superfood salad for the fries you had. I follow an 80/20 rule. 80% whole foods diet and 20% exercise regimen, or 80% whole foods and 20% junk/healthy-ish foods!
Move because you wanna.
Let me tell you how liberating it feels to move just because you want to feel strong and energized versus pure aesthetic goals. It’s been night and day for me and I hope that I can inspire this within you. Mindset is really everything my friends! My past self would spit out her tea out if she heard that I was voluntarily going to the gym because she liked the sweat and grit of it all. Doing it for health goals has served as a catalyst far beyond fitting in size 2 jeans ever could. You don’t have to go to the gym, you can just turn up some tunes and dance like nobody’s watching like I do before work.
Look in the mirror and find at least 1 thing you like or admire about yourself and say it out loud and truly own it.
I learned this trick from a friend and it’s crazy how fast you can love yourself when you start adding more to the list. Maybe it’s your brows, eye color, or how funny you are. Celebrate the fact that it’s yours and no one else's. It makes me tingle inside of how much love there is already inside us ready to be recognized.
Hygiene.
Being unruly doesn’t help our cause because it makes us feel like a complete mess. Along with the basics of staying fresh and clean, get a quick trim or new haircut or eyebrows done to get some shape and leave them alone. I repeat. LEAVE THEM ALONE. Yes, put those tweezers down sis and drink some tea.
Enhance, don’t change.
It’s funny how as I’ve gotten older, the less makeup I wear. And when I do, do my makeup, I’m foundation free and only enhance my strong suits such as my brows or eyes.
Take the time to put yourself together even if it’s going to the grocery store.
Yes, I said it. Ditch the sweatpants and put some jeans and a cute tee on. Feeling put together will instantly boost your mood and make you feel like a boss. Even on my no-makeup days, I at the very least brush up my brows, put eye cream, and curl my lashes. It helps set the tone that I somewhat have my shit together that day.
Celebrate and honor yourself.
Even on my lowest days, the thought of being a miracle, of not sharing the same DNA as my Starbucks barista makes me feel a little bit special. Celebrate the fact that no one is like you or has lived through the experiences you’ve had thus far. Celebrate your wins and losses, it’ll make you appreciate the goodness that you have in your life. You are part of a collective whole and that itself is absolutely wonderful.
Glow, right now!
When you tap into this loving energy, confidence will surge through you and all you have to be is you because you are simply enough.
